In the darkness is where I first met him.
Alone at a water fountain, tears rolling down my cheeks.
Ready to give up.
From the shadows, his voice came to me.
Soothing. Comforting. Rough as the blackest night.
I didn’t see him.
I didn’t even know his name.
All I knew was he saved me that night.
He put my back on my feet.
And he kept me on them.
Every single time I needed him, he found a way to come to me.
My stranger of the night.
My dark warrior.
My name is Scarlett. You probably know me.
I’m America’s number one country music star.
I’m also the loneliest girl you’ll ever meet.
He’s as free as a bird. A nomad. Travelling alone.
Nobody to hold him back.
He holds the freedom I pray for every single day.
He shows me that life can be so much more than what I’m living.
When danger comes knocking, he’ll also show me a different world.
A world I never knew existed.
A world that both terrifies and fascinates me.
A world that goes against everything I’ve ever known.
A world of Iron Fury

Which will win, the fear or the fury?
Let me tell you, when I saw that Bella Jewel was writing a new MC Romance, I was excited. Yeah, I admit I'm addicted to badass bikers. I've read over 300 of them, so I know what I'm talking about when I tell you she knows how to write them. Some authors have good stories, but they don't have the dialogue or the attitude right. There's something about bikers, they have their own language, using fewer words, with most of them being explicit. They are bossy and get their point across with a chin lift or a raised eyebrow. All that being said to make my point that Maverick will most definitely be added to many BBF lists once readers meet him in Whiskey Burning.
Scarlett is a country music star. She's loved by millions but spends most of her time alone. She feels trapped by her own talent, unable to leave her tour bus or hotel without security nearby. Somehow she manages to sneak away for a breath of fresh air and finds herself sitting near a fountain one night. She's exhausted and frustrated and feeling hopeless about her future. She thinks she's alone, until she hears his voice. She can't see him, but his voice is soothing. He comforts her with his words and his presence. She doesn't expect to ever run into him again, but then she sees him, the sexy, muscled, tattooed biker. She's drawn to him, and then she hears his voice and realizes he's the same man. He's big and bossy and badass and he makes her feel safe, and other things...
Maverick is a nomad. Or at least he has been for almost a year. He's running from his past and his pain. He plans to go back to his MC, eventually. But he needs time to get his head straight. When he meets her all chances of that go out the window. She makes him lose his mind. She has the voice of an angel and the face to match. And don't get him started on her body. She's the first woman to interest him for anything other than a temporary release. He wants to know her secrets and her dreams. He wants to keep her safe. He wants her...
I read this book in one stretch in a single day. I could not put it down. I love music themed books and when you mix that with MC Romance, I'm a gonner. Another of my weaknesses is broken bad boys and Maverick certainly fits that description. Throw in some sexy time, suspense, and some witty banter and this book checked all my boxes. I loved it. I can't wait for the next one, especially now that I know who it's about. The line forms here...
