"Buckle your seat belts, boys. Hurricane Amber is about to make landfall."
Being a lover of rockstar romance, I couldn't pass up Amber, especially since it was written by Elle Casey. I was introduced to her writing back in 2013 when I read Shine Not Burn. I still remember laughing my way through that amazing book and that made me excited to read this one.
What makes this rocker romance unique is that the band members are past their prime. Amber is 24 yrs old when she learns that her father is a famous rockstar in the band called Red Hot. She's been exposed to their music her whole life since they are her mother's favorite band. She knew every word to all of their songs, but she didn't know which one of the band members was her father.
Amber was raised in a hippie commune in Maine. She's a beekeeper and sells honey at the farmer's market. New York is not what she's used to, but that doesn't stop her from heading there to get some answers from her absentee father.
What an adventure Amber had when she arrived in Manhattan. I found it very amusing to be in her head listening to her internal dialogue as she's exposed to the crowded busy city full of rude people. I admired her determination and bravery as she overcame her insecurities, standing up for herself when faced with obstacles in her path. Her fix-it personality was endearing as she bonded with strangers, earning smiles from even the most reluctant. I found myself cheering her on as she tackled each obstacle, and won over each person, especially the sexy guitarist, Ty.
I was very curious to learn the story of Amber's conception. I was just as anxious for answers as she was. And when I met the aging rockers, I kinda fell for them too. I could understand how her mother was unable to resist their charm.
And then there's Ty. He's the youngest member of the band, the replacement guitarist. All he cares about is the music. He was raised on Red Hot music, so it was a dream come true to become a member of one of his favorite bands. He knows he has to take the bad with the good, but recently there's been a lot more bad than good. He doesn't complain, but Amber sees between the lines, what he's not saying. His tortured soul calls out to her, and she wants to fix-it.
I'm all for Amber fixing everyone and everything. I was ready to jump in and lend a hand. And there were a few that needed a foot, where the sun doesn't shine. I got caught up in the story, invested in the outcome, yearning for things to go my way. There are so many colorful characters that had me smiling, wanting to spend more time with them. I'm very excited that this is just the first book in a series so I have more #RedHotLove to look forward to. The line forms here...
