"Do the right thing, even if it's not the easy thing."
It's been a while since I've read a Chloe Cox book, and now I can confirm that it wasn't my imagination. She's still that good. Her smooth writing style transported me right back to Club Volare like it was just yesterday. I was totally invested in the character's lives right away. Immersed in the drama and hanging by a thread as I waited for secrets to be revealed and hearts to be mended.
Simone has her Band-Aides in place and is heading back to the place where her heart was broken. She's spent almost a year trying to rebuild herself. Trying to find her inner strength. Working to fight her demons and slay her dragons. Of course on her first day she loses a battle with a cup of coffee, ruining her power suit that was supposed to give her confidence. And of course, before she's ready, before she has her armor in place, he shows up. "Holt. Tall, dark, and everything." Her ex. The man who broke her heart. Her Dom. He's not really hers anymore, but tell that to her body. One word out of his mouth and it responds without checking with her first.
Holt messed up. He didn't mean to break her heart. He was just trying to show some 'tough love' and it backfired. When he sees her for the first time, after that night, he knows that nothing has changed. He still feels their connection. She still responds to him. But she doesn't trust him with her heart, only her body. Will he be able to earn her trust and win his way back into her heart? She says that, "Opposites might attract, but they didn't actually fit together." He's determined to prove her wrong. They do belong together...
While Simone is trying to piece her life back together, someone else is trying to tear it apart. She tried to hide her past, but it's chasing her, forcing her to face it. She is backed into a corner. If she tells him what really happened that night, she might lose him. If she doesn't, she might lose him anyway. Will she be able to find the strength to live through her worst nightmare a second time? Will there be any pieces of her left to pick up if she can't?
Holy hotness Batman! This story is amazeballs! It is gut wrenching, panty melting, heart breaking, anger inducing, suspenseful, funny, sweet, sad, and most of all passionate. The author tapped into my emotions and I felt the pain, the shame, the fear, the anger and most of the the love. I felt their hopelessness and their hope. It's a beautiful story and I'm so glad I was able to experience it.
I am so excited to confirm that there will be more Club Volare. I was introduced to a new character that really peaked my curiosity and I want to spend a lot more time with him and the strong woman it will take to capture his full attention. The line forms here...
